Our story
Powered by purpose, built in Florida
Inspired Energy was founded in 2002 on a straightforward premise: OEM device manufacturers deserve a battery partner that is technically capable, directly accessible, and accountable for every product that leaves our campus. No distribution layers. No overseas factories. No excuses.
From our single campus in Newberry, Florida, we built a team of engineers and manufacturers who are passionate about getting power right. Our vertical integration model means the processes involved in producing a smart battery pack happen on one campus: cell selection, PCB assembly, BMS firmware, injection molding, testing, labeling and final assembly.
Today, Inspired Energy products are trusted by OEM manufacturers in over 96 countries, powering devices in operating rooms, in the field, on unmanned aircraft, and in every major industry that depends on portable power.
Our history
From the smart battery spec to Newberry, Florida
Our engineers helped write the SMBus and Smart Battery specifications in 1995. In 2002 that team bought the business and became Inspired Energy. Here is how we got from 13 employees to today.
1994 to 2001The roots

Energizer establishes the Intelligent Power Electronics Group to focus on research and development in battery electronics.

1995
Energizer's IPE Group joins other industry experts to create the industry-standard specifications for SMBus, Smart Battery Data and Smart Chargers.

November 1999
Moltech acquires Energizer's OEM rechargeable business and the IPE Group.
2002 to 2005Inspired Energy is born

July 22, 2002
A management buyout of the Smart Battery SBU is completed and Inspired Energy is launched with 13 employees.

September 2003
The 95Wh NL range of 12-cell Li-ion smart packs is created. At the time, the highest capacity batteries still eligible for regular non-hazardous shipment.

Inspired Energy moves into a purpose-built smart battery design and manufacturing facility in Newberry, Florida.

Inspired Energy launches a full range of desktop chargers that work with all our battery packs.

The charger range expands to include 4-bay simultaneous charging.

The 205x range of standard batteries launches: 11 models with voltages from 3.6 to 14.4 V and up to 95Wh.

We source lithium-ion cells exclusively from globally recognized, tier-1 cell manufacturers. This is non-negotiable. The cell is the foundation of every battery, and we never compromise on the foundation.

Our Newberry, Florida campus houses the processes involved in producing a smart battery, which is what makes our vertical integration claim real, not marketing language.
When a custom battery project requires a new tool, a new board, a new label or a new enclosure, we don't need to wait on external vendors. We execute on our own schedule, under our own quality system, with our own team.

Our cell philosophy
The foundation of every battery we build
The lithium-ion cell is the most critical component in any battery pack. Its chemistry, quality and consistency determine the performance, safety and longevity of the final product, and we treat it accordingly.
Inspired Energy sources cells exclusively from the world's top-tier cell manufacturers. We do not use second-tier, gray-market or unbranded cells under any circumstances. We review and qualify cell suppliers program by program, selecting the cell chemistry, form factor and manufacturer that suit each application.
Our cell sourcing commitment
We source cells only from globally recognized, tier-1 lithium-ion cell suppliers. This is a non-negotiable standard at Inspired Energy, applied to every product in our catalog, including the lowest-cost standard batteries we produce.
Our OEM customers depend on us to make this decision correctly so they don't have to audit cell supply chains themselves. We take that responsibility seriously.
